TEAM LEADER, DOGTOWN VOLUNTEER COORDINATORS
Reports to: Sanctuary Volunteer Manager
Location: Kanab, Utah

Position Summary
: This position, in addition to providing the duties associated with the Dogtown Volunteer Coordinators, will oversee the coordination of workflow, control of work procedures and provision of guidance and training for the team and individual staff. He or she will serve as a liaison with the Team Leaders and Managers of Dogtown staff in order to share information and ensure adequate communication regarding policies, procedures and guidelines. The Team Leader will report directly to the Sanctuary Volunteer Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Cultivate relationships with team members while serving as point person or "lead" for the team.
  • Develop/maintain daily activity schedules for Dogtown volunteer coordinators.
  • Ensure adherence to the schedule of duties as outlined in the Roles and Responsibilities for the Dogtown Volunteer Coordinator position.
  • Ensure that established policies, procedures and guidelines are followed. Make recommendations for changes as needed.
  • Conduct regular "Communications Meetings" and staff meetings to discuss changes that will impact volunteer activities.
  • Train newly hired Dogtown Volunteer Coordinators and provide feedback to Sanctuary Volunteer Manager on performance.
  • Provide input to the Volunteer Manager regarding development and training needs of the team.
  • Assist with reporting of Dogtown volunteer data, as requested.
  • Work and interact with visitors and volunteers in Dogtown, to include but not limited to: conducting tours, assigning work, answering questions, promoting Best Friends' mission and assist with general needs.
  • Attend Dogtown Team Leader meetings in order to provide and receive information which will improve the coordination of functions between volunteers and Dogtown caregivers.
  • Attend Sanctuary Volunteer Department staff meetings and Divisional meetings.
  • Participate in managerial/team lead professional development as assigned.
  • Perform all duties as outlined in Volunteer Coordinator-Dogtown job description as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required skills and experience:
  • 1 year program management/volunteer management experience.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills (developing schedules, assignment of tasks, etc...)
  • General knowledge of dog behavior and ability to learn about and understand each dog as an individual.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, positive, personable, upbeat and energetic who effectively uses tact and diplomacy in daily interactions.
  • The successful candidate will take initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently and enthusiastically persist until goals are achieved.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and work independently in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Often working outdoors, must be physically able to perform manual labor.
  • Proven communication skills with experience interacting with the general public.
  • Professionally advocate Best Friends' position on issues.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment with volunteers as well as staff.
  • Computer literate: MS Office, Internet.
  • Valid Driver's License with access to transportation to drive on behalf of organization business.

Physical Requirements:
  • Routinely lift 40 to 50 pounds.
  • Work out of doors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 100 degrees.
  • Walk dogs that pull hard on a leash.
  • Work at a computer as needed.
