Paws for Peace: Dogs, cats rescued from Middle East war at Valley pet adoption events Jan. 26-28
January 23, 2007 8:18 AM
Kanab, UT (01/22/2007) - Furry refugees of the recent Israeli-Hezbollah war are traveling from their temporary refuge at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary to PETsMARTS in Phoenix and Tempe in search of good new homes.
The dramatic airlift of nearly 300 Lebanese pets made news around the world and was featured on NBC Nightly News and CBS Evening News. Best Friends Animal Society worked with both Israeli and Lebanese humane groups, and these cats and dogs were part of the unprecedented rescue from war-torn Beirut after local shelters were destroyed in the bombing. The four-footed victims of war came to the nation's largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah, on their way to finding new families.
For about 90 dogs and cats rendered homeless by the war between Israel and the Hezbollah, their happy ending could start this weekend. Simultaneous adoption events will be held:
