Jinni Launches with a Donation to Best Friends Animal Society

Jinni, the award-winning movie discovery service, is launching to the public with an exclusive donation for Best Friends Animal Society.

Oct. 5, 2009: Jinni announced today that the destination website Jinni.com has launched in public beta, using innovative semantic technology to help people choose what to watch next. Jinni is celebrating the launch with an exclusive donation to Best Friends Animal Society, the largest community-based no-kill animal rescue organization.

"We looked at the marketing budget for our launch, and decided we wanted to spend it in a meaningful way," said Mike Pohl, CEO of Jinni. "Partnering with Best Friends is a perfect opportunity to support an important cause while drawing a new audience to try Jinni."

Jinni will donate up to $10,000 to Best Friends based on sign-ups to the free Jinni service. In contrast to many comparable campaigns, Jinni is making the full monetary donation, while participants need only complete a quick, free sign-up process.

"Best Friends' work spoke to us personally," said Pohl. "We're a company of pet owners and animal lovers! Best Friends also has a universal cause: I think everyone who tries our service will see extra value knowing that they contributed to rescuing homeless animals at the same time. Now, Jinni is a better way to choose movies in more ways than one!"

Jinni's semantic search and personal recommendations, powered by the Movie Genome, comprise a one-stop service for choosing and getting linked to watch. Aiming to help people find what fits their personal moods and tastes, Jinni was chosen by CNET as the best movie recommendation engine on the web. For the public launch, Jinni is introducing new community and Movie Personality features.

Just as Jinni opens to the public, Best Friends is celebrating its 25th anniversary of dedication to its mission of No More Homeless Pets. Supported by a grassroots network of members and community partners across the U.S., Best Friends operates the largest no-kill sanctuary at its headquarters in Kanab, Utah, and leads numerous initiatives in animal care and community programs.

"This campaign is a unique way for our members, supporters and the public at large to help Best Friends without opening their wallets at all," said Namrata Chand, Best Friends cause marketing manager. "People discover a great, free movie service while helping homeless animals. What's not to like?"

Jinni will donate for each sign-up, so inviting others to join is a chance for participants to maximize the donation. The campaign is spotlighted on both the Jinni and Best Friends websites, and they are asking their members to spread the word via e-mail and social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
