Anna Gonce, Senior Manager, Community Programs and Services

Anna Gonce is the Senior Manager, Community Programs and Services(CP&S) division of Best Friends. Before coming to Best Friends, she was the executive director for the Gabriel Foundation, a parrot sanctuary and adoption center in Denver, Colorado. She worked there for two years helping to build a new 40,000-square-foot facility that houses up to 450 birds. Before that, she worked for the American Humane Association, where she wore many hats, including public relations director and manager of the Animal Emergency Services program.

From March to November 2007, Anna worked as a special projects manager at Best Friends; she helped to launch a number of strategic initiatives. As the associate director for CP&S, she works closely with our animal help, humane education, campaigns, volunteers, and NMHP outreach teams to create programs and services that benefit animals in communities everywhere.

Anna really appreciates that Best Friends is willing to give so much away in order to help struggling organizations achieve better results for animals. She feels that Best Friends shares its failures as well as its successes so that other groups can learn from us and try to do things better. And she especially appreciates that we are willing to take risks by bucking conventional wisdom and trying new methods and programs.

Anna's husband, Aldo Wilson, also works at Best Friends; he's a vet tech in the clinic. In his native Peru, he is a licensed veterinarian and is working on his AVMA credentials so he can practice in the States. They share their home with two dogs, Wayward and Pepito; three black cats, Rogue, Bast and Monkey; and three parrots, Mackenzie, Joey and Flipper Honey. It's a loud and rambunctious family ? never a dull moment!
