Beth Mersten, No More Homeless Pets Outreach Manager

Beth Mersten is the manager of No More Homeless Pets Outreach, which covers the national No More Homeless Pets conference and the No More Homeless Pets Help Desk, supporting community and organization-wide efforts to stop the killing of homeless pets nationally and internationally.

Beth Mersten was previously the manager of the Best Friends Network, an online interactive website (network.bestfriends.org) that connects people through kindness to animals. Beth is passionate about finding creative ways to help people make a difference.

Beth joined Best Friends in 2004 as the Northeast Region's community program manager for Best Friends' national No More Homeless Pets campaign. Beth worked with shelters, rescue groups, other humane organizations and individuals to develop local No More Homeless Pets programs.

Beth founded Shelter Showcase, a rescue group serving northern New Jersey. Beth has organized the Shelter Showcase adoption events, and has helped many cats through a combination of Shelter Showcase's TNR program, personalized adoption counseling, Stay at Home Rescue program and partnering with other groups on rescue projects. Shelter Showcase is a resource helping both people and pets.

Beth also worked at Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter in East Hanover, New Jersey, as their vice president of development and marketing. Her skills and long hours helped Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter save more animals, develop stronger relationships with other shelters and rescue groups, respond better to the needs of the community, increase media and community awareness of the shelter, and start the shelter's first model TNR program.

Beth earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Although her degrees were in biology, she became a successful computer consultant with strong customer service skills before working full time in the animal welfare field. During her seven years in the computer field, Beth fulfilled project management and technical roles in Fortune 500 companies, earning several professional certifications, and starting a small consulting firm called Elysian Enterprises.

Beth shares her home in New Jersey with three rescued dogs.
