Denise LeBeau, Web Managing Editor
After three years on the Best Friends Network as content manager, Denise LeBeau became the web managing editor in early 2009.
Denise joined Best Friends in 2004, starting as a coordinator for Animal Help and then for the No More Homeless Pets department. These roles involved giving individuals and organizations the resources and tools to help any animal situation and/or further their endeavors in animal welfare.
She came from New York City where, after becoming a dog trainer, she worked with adopted shelter dogs in their new homes, and manned the Ask The Dog Trainer table at Mayor's Alliance adoption events.
Before becoming a dog trainer, she was the assistant curator to Robert Rauschenberg for twelve years. She ran his busy Lafayette Street studio and worked on many projects, including the traveling Retrospective mounted by the Guggenheim in 1997. She was also the executive manager of his foundation called Change, Inc., a nonprofit which gave grants to artists in financial emergencies.
Denise moved to Kanab, Utah with her husband and two dogs, Scratch and Topaz. Since working at the sanctuary she has added seven cats to her brood: Plumpkin, Tivali, Mr. Cat, Slayer, Zinger, & Sir Fluffy Feet Muffin Mitts. And two dogs: Zephyrella and Parker. She is averaging one and a half pets per year while working at Best Friends.
