Kristi Littrell, Adoptions Manager

Kristi Littrell is the adoptions manager at Best Friends. Kristis love has always been caring for and placing special-needs animals in wonderful, lifetime homes. Since arriving at Best Friends in 1997, she feels like she has found her true calling.

Kristi received a bachelors degree in English and creative writing from Colorado State University and worked as a veterinary technician for five years while attending college. Her first job at Best Friends was writing for Best Friends magazine, the website and other publications as the roving reporter and, at the same time, working in all the animal care areas.

She grew up on a farm and her parents rescued animals throughout her childhood. Kristi inherited her great love of animals from her parents and was raised with the value that animals dont have to be perfect, just loved. One of her inspirations was a Pomeranian named Frosty with whom she shared her life for 16 years. Frosty endured many health problems with an amazing spirit. Another big inspiration in Kristi's life was the first Best Friends dog she ever adopted. Margarita was a four-pound Chihuahua who hated people. Before she came to Best Friends, she had spent five years in a closet; she was teased for her food, and given a cup of coffee with cream and sugar daily. Kristi spent the next five years loving her and helping her to trust again. Kristi gives a lot of credit for her success with special-needs dogs to Frosty and Margarita and the lessons they taught her about the healing power of love, time and patience. She has fostered over 200 animals here at Best Friends and has placed countless more into loving lifetime homes.

Kristi lives with two dogs (Smidge, a terrier mix, and Heaven, a three-legged Lab mix) and two kitties (Holstein, an 18-year-old formerly semi-feral kitty, and Willow, a three-legged mellow guy).
