Cutting-Edge Spay/Neuter Methods
Breckenridge, Colorado - The
Alliance for Contraception in Cats and Dogs is hosting the second International Symposium on Non-surgical Contraceptive Methods for Cats and Dogs in Breckenridge, Colorado, on June 24-27. The alliance was formed in 2000 to promote the development of non-surgical methods of controlling pet population growth.

Super Adoption Days
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - More than 74 animals found loving homes during a Super Adoption Day hosted by
The People-Pet Partnership and sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society. Participating groups included
Philadelphia Animal Care & Control, the
Pennsylvania SPCA, the
Rat & Mouse Club, and
Pals for Life. During the event, an orange tabby brought gasps from the crowd when he ran across the busy street in front of the adoption event. A Best Friends volunteer rescued the kitty, who now awaits adoption.

Roanoke Valley, Virginia - By the end of the two-day Roanoke Valley Super Adoption, 86 families had new pets. More than 4,100 people attended the weekend event, which featured more than 100 animals for adoption from 16 humane societies, rescue groups and shelters from across southwest Virginia. Billboards Promote Pet Adoption
Atlanta, Georgia - Award-winning ad agency Fitzgerald and Company created a series of outdoor ads to promote the No More Homeless Pets Atlanta campaign and online pet adoptions through the
Lifeline Animal Project website. The billboards are now on display in prominent locations around the city.
Seniors for Seniors
Palm Beach, Florida - Two volunteers launched a matchmaking service called "Save Our Seniors" with the help of the
Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. The program aims to place older animals in the homes of senior citizens. Read this inspiring story on

Pet Store Promotes Cat Adoptions
Zanesville, Ohio - A local pet store manager has asked the
Animal Shelter Society Inc. to place one adult cat in the Maple Avenue store for adoption every week and hopes to encourage other businesses to host homeless cats at their locations. Find the article in the

Shopping Mall Kitten Adoptions
Sampson City, North Carolina -
Sampson County Animal Shelter featured "take-home ready" kittens at a recent adoption event at a shopping center. The shelter gets over 40 kittens a month in the summer. Find the story in the

Survival of the Fixed
Galapagos Islands and Gainesville, Florida - A half-dozen veterinarians and volunteers from
Operation Catnip went to the Galapagos Islands, 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, for two weeks to spay/neuter dogs and cats on the island. Find the article in

Lost Cat Recovery Program
Dallas, Texas - The
Feral Friends' Lost Cat Recovery Program, inspired by the success of pet detective turned author
Kat Albrecht, has recovered close to 90 percent of missing cats whose people contacted Feral Friends within 24 hours of losing their pet. The national return rate for lost cats is only 2 percent.
Giving TNR a Try
Ralston, Nebraska - The city of Ralston, with help from the
Nebraska Humane Society, is launching a pilot trap/neuter/return program for feral cats. See the story in the

Pugs at the Pub
Portland, Oregon - Pugs at the Pub, a benefit hosted by the Portland Brewing Company, drew more than 1,300 people with their dogs (mostly pugs) and raised more than $12,000 for the animals at the

Art, Fashion, Pets
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - A fashion show, art auction, and pet adoption event came together in Pittsburgh.
Animal Friends, the

Community Food Drive
Benton, Arkansas - When Saline County sheriff Phil Mask heard that the food supply was low at the
Animal Orphanage, he sprang into action, convincing businesses throughout the area to donate. The result of his efforts was a pickup truck piled high with sacks of dog kibble, kitty litter, and cans of pet food. And Mask is getting businesses involved in providing long-term food donations. ASPCA Donates $5 Million to NYC No-Kill Goal
New York, New York - The ASPCA has made a $5 million commitment - $1 million per year for five years - to support the plans of the Mayor's Alliance for New York City's Animals to make New York a no-kill city. For details, see the

No-Kill Kickoff in Oklahoma
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The
Oklahoma Alliance for Animals' May 17th kick-off meeting brought local groups and officials together toward the goal of making Tulsa a no-kill community. The alliance unites 40-plus area rescue groups. Tulsa mayor Bill LaFortune voiced his support for the alliance's mission and Tulsa radio personality Cindy Bear, from radio KBEZ, entertained the crowd with the story of her adopted cat.

No More Homeless Pets Atlanta Open House
Atlanta, Georgia - About 100 Best Friends members came out to tour the No More Homeless Pets Atlanta facility in Atlanta. The center features dog and cat boarding for local rescue groups and pet adoptions for the public. A low-cost spay/neuter clinic is in the works.
