Loving Leukemia Cats
Christine Zwicky of Orem, Utah, had a house full of dogs and children - but no cats. So when she met Elaine (right) and fell in love with her, it hardly mattered that this kitty had feline leukemia, which is infectious. She was simply the cat Christine loved!
"It was love at first sight," she recalls, "It didn't matter that she had leukemia. We just wanted to enjoy her, no matter how much time she had."
Christine knew that Elaine would not live forever, and she passed away, one day, in the comfort of her home. After recovering from the loss, Christine came right back to Best Friends, and adopted another leukemia cat. "Freckles" was the lucky winner of this loving home.
"For my household," says Christine, "I don't see leukemia as a reason not to adopt such a loving kitty. No matter how much time we have together, it's worth it. These cats are a blessing."
