They Love FIV Kitties
Two more FIV kitties found a home with Best Friends members Dennis Cook and Anne Tatom of Washington State, who have so far adopted seven from the sanctuary!
"We just lost one of our other kitties, Simon, to a carcinoma of the pancreas," explained Dennis, as he stroked Harlan, a seven-year-old who came to the sanctuary as a stray two years ago. "Simon used to sleep on my shoulder at night. I have a feeling that Harlan is taking over that spot!"
Having agreed on Harlan, Dennis and Anne asked which of the other kitties was the most eager to get a home.
"Begara!" said the cat staff unanimously.
Eight-year-old Begara an 8-year-old kitty came to Best Friends in 1998 from a home that no longer wanted him. That's often the case with FIV cats - and quite unnecessarily.
Dennis, who owns a mortgage company, shares cat-housekeeping duties with Anne. "I feed the kitties each morning, then scoop their litterboxes and give some of them their morning medications. Then Anne takes over for the day!"
"The FIV kitties need a home, too," adds Anne. "And the more we spread the word, the better off these loving kitties are! All they need is a loving home!"
FIV is a condition that weakens a cat's immune system. But it's been seriously misunderstood since people started calling it "feline AIDS."
