Tomato's Farewell ... ... and till we all meet again. I was in Hawaii when I go the
news about Tomato’s pass over to heaven. it greatly saddens me and I am not
the same person. I have a picture of Tomato and Benton and I pray for them both.
my heart is always with them. Love, My heart is breaking. On May 16, 1999, my beautiful orange
kitty Daniel, joined you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. He was only
four years old and the sweetest, most mischievous little boy ever. I miss him so
much. You will know him when you see him because not only is he a hilarious
kitty, he is the most beautiful kitty in the world. =^..^= You
were certainly one famous and much loved kitty.
Your passing brought sadness and tears, but knowing you are in a better
place where there are no such things as sneezles and yucky medicine, makes it
easier to bear. My kitties, Simba
and Brandy, and my wonderful doggies Lucky and Major, have been on the other
side of the Rainbow Bridge for several years and will be happy to be your
friends. Love and blessings to all
God’s creatures. I’m
sorry that I didn’t know about you before your departure to Kitty Heaven.
I’d like for you to say hello to my dearest Tammy 1, Tammy 2, Timmy 1,
Timmy 2, Timmy 3 and Crystal. They
were my child hood cats ever since I was a baby.
Now that I’m on my own, I have a special kitty of my own, his name is
Tigger. I found Tigger at an animal shelter as the “cat of the
day”. He was a pathetic looking
cat who was hit by a car. But I
fell in love with him right from the start.
He has FIP, though, but he’s been with me for 1-1/2 years and is my
constant companion throughout the house. He’s
my security guard at night, with his watching post at the top of my pillow.
He sneaks to the middle of the bed when I’m sleeping on my side.
But that’s okay, cuz he is my best friend. I
am so happy that there is a place like this in the world for precious animals
like you to live. There is so much suffering in
this world. I lost my Jenna 6 months ago to pancreatic cancer. She was a
black lab mix who came to me after Hurricane Andrew that crippled her,
she was 10 months old I worked for a vet at the time, and for free he did several
operations on her, but thought she would still only walk on 3 legs and she did
for the first year. But she did walk and run and play for the next 5 years. This
is the first time I ever heard of you and I already love you, Tomato, you’ll
be a great angel & and an even better guardian angel. You lived your life
fully and did every thing that you were allowed to. Good Bye. Since
you know the ropes and have
established yourself across the Rainbow Bridge, please welcome my much loved
kitty Tara who was with me for nearly 17 years.
Tell her how much I love her and that she will always be in my heart and
to please look for me when my time comes to cross the bridge. Dear Tomato: The Beautiful Cat Goddess lives in the heart of every cat lover. She is
there to touch your heart, console the loss of one of her court, bring smiles on bad days and befriend each of us that love these special
creatures so much. Please say a special "hello and I love you" to my most special, beautiful Sly, who crossed over in August, 1985. I lost him far too soon to bone cancer, and even though it has been almost 14 years, I still miss him terribly and think of him every day. Tell him his buddy Seagrams says "meow" . I have four other beautiful babies as well, but NO ONE will ever, ever be as special to me as my Sly. Until we can all be together!Much love. Marti Birmingham, Alabama I lost my brown tabby Araminta, tuxedo cat Angel, and sweet gray Nicki (collodian) before the
Internet took hold, so if you can look them up, tell them I still miss them, and remind them we'll be together again, I'd be most
grateful. Use your own judgment in telling Araminta and Angel that the house now includes dogs (but maybe Nicki has told them already). With so many of
you at the bridge here are some good interim laps--look up my parents, brother, and sister. My husband and I plan on visiting Best Friends next summer and even though we're sad that you are
gone, we'll have the pleasure of meeting all your friends and family. Please watch over our babies- Max, Murphy, Joli, Sasha, Tyler, and
Kiwi. And please tell Betsy, Boo-boo and Midnight that I love them and think of them
always. It has been five years since I lost Fred, my little poodle-terrier and my best friend. Three years ago, I lost my beautiful
Doberman, Pax to cancer. He was 13. I miss both of my boys terribly. This summer I lost my dear mute Tuxedo cat, Candace, who was a "sweet
young thing" of 16. I also lost my baby Mischa-a rescued cat who crossed over the rainbow-bridge at only 3 years old. I miss them
terribly. Please tell them how much they're loved and how I hope they're waiting for me when I get there.
We love and miss you. You sound like a very special cat. I wish I could have known you. We lost our dog, Princess, of 15 years a short while back. She was the
first dog that was really mine. It was so difficult. Now we have a cat that has kidney failure. Her time is short, so we're told. Each day is so
special. I hate to go to work each day. Thank you for your website. It helped. I'm glad Best Friends is keeping your home page. Remember you're here in our hearts each time we think of
you and remember you. Say hello to all my friends there waiting for me. I'll look forward
to meeting you in person someday. A timeless farewell to you from me and Tinks. We love you, I hope this note finds you happy and well. If you get a chance, please look up Babe
(Gordon setter), Pup (shepherd/husky mix) and Taupe (Weimeraner)...and see if you can find Alex, Ashley and Dusty in your cat
travels. Let them know that we love them and think of them often. If you can catch up with Bull, a
Doberman, who joined you two days ago, tell him I'm sorry we couldn't do more. You are all dearly missed. Please say hello to my friends, Fiona, a wonderful black lab, and Ninji, a wonderful black cat, oh and also my hamster Pepper she is
gray. After 14 wonderful years of friendship, my little diabetic Sparkle left me for Kitty Heaven where I know he
was waiting to welcome you. Please give him a huge hug for me for I miss him so much. I hope you will be very happy wherever you end up and, thanks to you and Benton, I will become a new member of Best Friends. I love kitty cats and will do whatever I can to help the kitties at TLC Cat Club. Love ,Mary Please find our kitties, Ting-a-Ling, Tinker, Deeters, Fat Cat, and our doggies, Ladybird and Thor, and tell them how much we
miss them, but look forward to being with them again someday. Tell them their Master Walt is up there also, and to go to him and keep him company.
Tears of Love to You, Today I had to put my beloved cat, Baby, to sleep because of cancer. He gave
me such pleasure in his 13 years and I loved him too much to make him stay any longer. I know he'll be scared to be without me, so please meet him at the
Bridge and be his friend till I get there. Tell him that Mommy loves him and that I'll never forget my
little sweetie. When my time comes, have him meet me at the Bridge, OK, Tomato? Please tell Kitty that one day I will get to see him in person and will want to tell him myself how sorry I am
about what happened to him or her and that although we didn't know each other how much I love him and think about him all the time.
Could you do that for me, Tomato?? Thank you. Please keep him company 'till I get to Heaven one day...okay? We never met, Tomato, but I'm sure you're top drawer if you're from Best Friends.
Please find my little Buffy who just left for Rainbow Bridge and make sure she is painting the town red as she never has
before. Tell the rest of the gang the party is on . . . I'll have to get back with an exact date, . . . but
Buffy will understand and have the reservations waiting . . . she's our girl for always and ever. You were a real inspiration to all kittendom. If you see two special cats named
Spook and Tat, would you please say hi to them and tell them I'll be with them again someday? Love,
I would really appreciate your finding my best friends, Molly my tan, beautiful tabby cat who was
18; Foxy Lady, our wonderful Sheltie/German Shepard; Little Cat, a beautiful calico
who was 16 years old; and Maggie who was only 2 years old and a loving and beautiful mixed breed puppy.
We have always adopted our animals from the Virginia Beach SPCA and have given them all our love.
Since I am also a writer and journalist type, I felt we had much in common. I am glad you shared time with us. I miss you,
Tomato. Love, Hey, you very pretty cat. I am so sorry to hear about what happened but I hope that
you are feeling okay. I love cats and if there is any thing that I can do then
email me. Lex, Baltimore MD I just read your story. It made me sad and happy at the same time. I had
several cats when I was younger: Piddy, Bear, Grey Baby, Gracie, Katy and
Squeeky. They were good cats who all left me way too soon, way before I even knew there was a
Rainbow Bridge. I'm sure they're there though, can you look for them? And if
you see Willis, an all-black Terrier-Mix dog, and Snowball the White Kitty,
tell them I will see them one day, too. Meow, Meow. Tomato, you usually made me laugh, but your last article made me cry. I
never got to meet you in purrson here, so I'll have to wait until I cross the bridge to
make your acquaintance. Until I get there, would you please look up a lady cat named
Albert and tell her I miss her... and all the other animals who are waiting for me, too?
>^.^< I hope you are having a good time in Kitty Heaven. If you happen to see my cat named
Thinny please give him a purr for me and a great big kiss. Thinny passed on after living
with me for l6 years. He was my dearest friend and I miss him terribly as I am sure
everyone misses you at Best Friends. Love & Purrs to you. My dog, Munchkin, was hit by a car and went over the Rainbow Bridge a few hours ago.
Please make sure she is ok and happy and that she knows that we all love her and wish she
was back home with us. Please take care of Munchkin. She was never mean to cats, I swear
it. You're a very special cat and I know you will help a fellow guardian angel. Thanks, I always read your column first. Your humor was wonderful. Now you don't need the yucky
medicine. My buddy Butchie passed over right after you did. Tomato, tell him how much we
miss him and he is to wait with Shandy and Sugar until we get together again. Love you, Piggy is a beautiful bronze, brindle greyhound. She has a white face, other than that,
she doesn't look a day over two. She died at fourteen. Piggy was my master, actually
everyone's master in my house. I hope you will go up to her and make friends because you
will absolutely fall in love with Piggy. My eyes are filled with tears, even after five
years of separation, but I am happy she has your company. So, look after each other and
give her a hug from Janet. Oh, tell her I have another greyhound, Spring, and two cats. We
have her ashes in a beautiful jar and I talk to her all the time. She really never left
this house because we talk and laugh about her often. I was adopted by Robitaille, the love of my life, when he was a young kitten. When he
died, I did not know about Rainbow Bridge. I have worried so much about him. He must be
wondering why I haven't asked you to look him up. When you see my Robitaille, please give
him a "sank-u baby" (thank you baby, aka kiss) from me. He's a beige tabby,
eternally 4 years old, probably gained all of his weight back by now. Robitaille had
leukemia, so he knows all about sneezles and yukky medicine and needles. Maybe he's found
Toto (black Lhasa-Poo), who also knows about all that stuff, and maybe Rookie (black cat
who lived with me for 17 years). Please give them all my love, and any others you meet who
shared their lives with me. I still miss his love, most of all. As I sit and type this message, tears of joy and sadness are running down my face.
Tomato, who gave so much of himself, you will live in our hearts forever. Please tell
Nicholas, who went over the bridge last year, that we will love him always and that we
miss him! Love, I wish I had met you! I know you have lots of great company on your side of the bridge.
I know you are still writing great editorials for all the angels! Always, My dad & sister will take good care of you up there in heaven! Love, Though I never met you, Best Friends is the best place you could have been before you
had to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Say hi to Peanuts and Peppy for me. I think of them
always. I remember you sitting on that typewriter when we visited you two years ago. Please
tell our Butterball that we think of him every day and we miss him. Tell Socks Hobby, the
new arrival, that her mom misses her. One day we'll all be together again! I have just arrived at your site..I know somehow that you are at the golden
bridge helping others across..Please look out for my Nessie.. She should be there
soon. She
passed away just five hours ago. Show her where the catnip fields are..Tell her how much I
miss her. As a fellow reporter, I can say you deserved a "Pullet-surprise" as we call
it in my office. You are an inspiration to all of us and I hope that you will give some
divine guidance to my bagle-dog, Tilie Louise, who hopes to write the office commentary
for our newspaper's company newsletter. She could use the help from an experienced
veteran! All of us in the field of journalism feel the loss of your
presence and this year, when we have a moment of silence for our departed colleagues at
the New England Press Association Awards and Banquet, I will remember you! I never got to meet you but I know I will always love you. You've brought me much
laughter and joy. THANK YOU TOMATO !!!! OXOXOXOXOX Tomato - please tell Sparky, CoCo, Lassie, Suki, Champ, Rodi, Shana, Tuffy, Fluffy and
Patches that l love them and they are in my dreams and thoughts always. You are in good
company, Tomato. I miss you and all my former housemates!!! Please give everyone a great big PURRRRRRRRR on our behalf. We will miss you, Tomato. Rest assured that you have won the Pulitzer Prize of our
hearts. I look forward to seeing you one day when I cross the Rainbow Bridge to a world
where there are no trash bins to throw away dear little kitties, no cars, no traps, no
sneezles, no yucky medicine .... Farewell, dear Tomato. I was wondering if you could make sure some of my friends feel at
home on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. The first is a beautiful, albeit large, grey
tabby named Geraldine. She loves to cuddle, so beware. The second is a spry young male by
the name of Simba. He will be easier to recognize since he is bobtailed and has five
"fingers" on each foot. He is a marmalade colored tabby. I will miss you and
your unusual sense of humor greatly. I love you, I miss Tomato! My life is not the same without him. Can anyone contact
him over the bridge and see if he wants to call in his story from there?Tell him this
world is a poorer place without him! I was planning on visiting you during my university's Thanksgiving
break. I'm so sad that I will miss seeing you there. I hope to see an extra star in the
constellation of Leo tonight. Until we meet in the hereafter, Sweet Tomato Cat, I only got to meet you today and feel deprived that I
didn't know you sooner. You are so beautiful and I'm sure you're keeping them all in
stitches at the Bridge. Please tell Midnight Blue I love her. Sweet dreams, sweet cat. This isn't a joke: You're the only tomato I ever liked. Do you think that you could use that special ability of yours to send us
"ghost" reports from over the Rainbow Bridge? Maybe Tammy could help bring them
to us. .Though I am so sad, I am glad You're with the Great Cat and not sick any more. Be healthy, my friend. If you meet my collie, Wally, don't be afraid. He just wants to
say hello! If you see him, tell him I miss him, as I miss you. I hope that Tammy is doing
OK without you. Tomato you did such a good job here on Earth, I know you will continue
your work in heaven. I'm sorry I never got a chance to meet you. I want to visit Best Friends as soon as I
can and am sorry you won't be there to greet me in person. You were a special cat and I
hope to meet you when I go to the other side. Until then, my good buddy.... Love, Blue skies to you, Tomato! Patches, Swatch, and Splotch are waiting.
If you're not to busy with a new column across the rainbow bridge, could you please
be Buster's guardian angel? He needs a good one like you. Your articles will be truly be missed, but we also know that now you
will be able to run around without pain or illness in beauty and peace forever. Say hello
to our old Sammy cat who recently died of kidney failure. She will enjoy a new friend to
kibiz with. Hi, Tomato. Even though I didn't get to meet you or go to best friends, I felt like you
were one of my cats. You were so special to me. If you see a kitten named Stripper, say hi
and that I love and miss her very much. We love ya Tomato. I've known a few like you...couldn't help them either. Look around and see if you can
find Linus, Old Coot, Cootie Too and Prize Kitty. They were some of my extra special ones.
Sitting here like an idiot...grown man crying over a cat I never met. Tomato, my good friend Sniffer went over the Rainbow Bridge last night, September 21,
1998. Please look out for him. He's a grey-beige Holland Lop with the most
incredibly
intelligent and inquisitive dark brown eyes you've ever seen. Let him know that Ed and I
miss him so very much, and that we will always love him. My heart goes out to the sweet and handsome cat, Tomato, whom I never met. I am glad he
had so many friends! I hope to see him someday. When I found out you went over the Rainbow Bridge I just cried my eyes out. My husband
came running out of our house thinking I hurt myself. I just told him no Tomato died and
cried some more. I will miss you terribly. Can you look for my cat that I had as a child
named Funny Face a beautiful Gray Persian and tell her I still think of her. Thank you. The magazines just aren't the same without Tomato's investigative reports. I miss his
funny photos the most but can still flip back to the old issues. Sure feels like I've
known him for years, but wish I had the chance to scratch his back and chin and stroke his
orange fur. You're in our hearts, Tomato! I know you will be happy as a sweet angel kitty along with our beloved JoJo, who
crossed over the Rainbow Bridge April 27th of this year. No need to tell her how much she
is loved and missed, she knows. You both are in our thoughts. I never met you, but am so sad that you are gone. Your farewell was cleverly written
(as usual), and quite a tearjerker. I desperately want to visit Best Friends and I hope to
do so within the next year. I will make sure I visit your final resting place at Angel's
Rest. Sleep tight and goodnight old buddy. You brought sunshine and warmth to us all with your marvelous writing. Say
"Hi" to Nechmad, I'll bet the two of you will really hit it off. All the good
you've done will follow you into eternity and into all the lives you have yet before you.
With love and appreciation, Your life brought so much joy and happiness to all who knew of you...I can only hope
that you are in a better place. Please tell Sheba, who fought all 18 months of her dear
life to stay happy and alive, that she is forever in my heart...and Pepper who gave me 11
years of joy that I am sorry I couldn't do more. May you all run and pounce together in
peace. Tomato, what a beautiful, precious, and blessed creature you were. I will
never forget you, my beautiful, forever friend. I will always love you. I so enjoyed reading your reports, I'm a long way away from the
sanctuary, which made it impossible for me to meet you. I can tell that you are missed by
many many people. With love, Hey Tomato, I'm sorry that we never got to meet, too, but on behalf of all the
Catchatters and others on the Feline-l list, I extend our purrs and prayers for warmth and
happiness at the bridge. Please keep a look out for Ann, Isa, and Deb (she just arrived
the other day). They'll take care of you. Maybe I'll see you up there one day, old chap, When you see Cindy, tell her we miss her so very much. Thank you, Tomato Dear Tomato, I would like to be a part of Best Friends some day. I hope
you had a good last few days. I love animals and would like to be a vet some day. Your
friend You were a beautiful cat and a wonderful reporter. If you run into a lovely black 1/2
Siamese named Ishtar, please tell her I love her and think of her a lot. Also please look
for two marmalade and white (very like you!) little Spanish cats who died young, tho not
unloved at the end, Elsa and Julia. We loved them, tried to save them and miss them
terribly. And poor little Katie, who had a short life, but one a little happier at the end
when we found her.
Dear Tomato, please say hello to BJ, Ernie, Tweeter and Mysti, who all
left this world in the last two years with the same illness as you. The other 18 cat
companions and 3 dog friends all miss them as we all miss you. Please say hello and give a kiss to my little Vickie Pomeranian. She went to Rainbow
Bridge Monday, August 31st. I miss her so very, very, very much. What a beautiful kitty. The world was truly fortunate to have been touched by your
love. Please watch over my baby, Dusty, on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. She's a
lovebug and will surely be one of your Best Friends in time. Love, Tomato, reading about your journey over the Rainbow Bridge, only a few weeks after I
got word that Shoes, my adopted kitty at the TLC Cat Club had passed over, was really too
sad for me! But I assume you two are hanging out together in heaven, since you were both
angels on earth. Farewell and may God bless you and all our furry friends. I'll be going out to meet your friends one of these days. Sorry I missed you. I hope
you'll send our love to Kitty...Kitty. A big old car sent her over the Rainbow Bridge on
August 24th. We met you when we visited Best Friends. Our beloved Chole crossed over the Rainbow
Bridge two years ago. Give her our love. We will always remember you. I was looking forward to meeting you on our trip to Best Friends but you crossed the
Rainbow Bridge two weeks earlier. One day I will get to meet you and all the other animals
and people I love. Till then, my friend. There is a Great Cat up there, and she's been waiting patiently for your return. Be
happy, and smile down those rainbows to all of us whom you've touched, and even those you
haven't. All my love, We were privileged to meet you. Have a great time on the other side. Please say hello to my Paddy cat (a
huge and handsome grey and black tabby) and tell him I still love and miss him every day.
You were a good cat. Rest now. I enjoyed all your investigative reports and cried when I found out you went over the
Rainbow Bridge. Please say hello to the Bruces, our boxers I and II, to Oliver the cat, to
Soco to American Pit Bull Terrier and to Samson, one of the best Black Labs. Head bumps
from the McQueen kids, Winston, Orphan and Ziggy. I just stumbled into this site after burying my dad's cat, his name is Mickey.
I'm sure you'll meet him up there in heaven -- please tell him how much we love and miss
him. You certainly are a marvelous cat, please feel well now, as you are in God's care. I was sitting in the cafeteria at work looking through Best Friends
magazine and started sobbing when I read Tomatos Farewell. I never knew him, but I
felt a loss just the same. I will miss his humor. Rest in peace. He taught us that the pen is mightier than the claw. Tomato always brought so much happiness. I know he is with the Great
Cat nosing around and offering advice to all the pups and kits in Heaven. A fine cat and an excellent reporter. I had planned to come and meet you last October, but had to side-line my
trip. I'll miss you, but at least you're not sick any more. We love you!!!! Thanks for the wonderful directions. I tried to use them but got taken to the trash
dump while I was wiaiting in a trash can. Oh well. If you see a Rufus, a 14-year-old black
fluffy cat, say Lindsey and her mom, Julie, said Hi. No more health problems or "yucky medicine!" You are beautiful and I will miss your reporting. You were a brave kitty and certainly provided invaluable encouragement
to those of us involved in rescue work on a daily basis. I'm sure that you're an angel
now, and that you're enjoying your new home over Rainbow Bridge. Keep an eye on all of us
please. Tomato: one persons trash, many beings treasure. No
more sneezles, no more yucky medicine, just endless hours of play in the Fields of Catnip. Despite the fact that Im admittedly a "dog person,"
Tomatos saucy commentary delighted me. I guess it is no surprise that his farewell
brought me to tears. Thanks for the laughs. I wish we had met, and I will miss you. When I finished reading Tomatos last column I cried like a baby,
scaring two of my little foster kittens who had never heard such sounds coming from me. It
was a wonderful article, a fitting tribute to his life and contributions, and nice to know
he is at one with the Great Cat. Rest in peace and love with Frisky Francis who also crossed over the
Rainbow Bridge. Dear Tomato, you know that my Misse is gone now, so PLEASE do not let
Her stay alone. You do not have to tell Her that I love Her, She knows. I never met Tomato but was very sad to hear he died. I thought his final article was
the sweetest, most wonderful way to say goodbye, but I'll miss it. My heart is very sad at the loss of your little Tomato cat. It
was such a shock and even if he wasnt mine, it hurt. I cried buckets reading "Tomato's Farewell." I am so sorry to hear about Tomatos death. He was a cool cat. I
loved him like he was mine. God Bless, Protect and Watch over you and all of God's fur babies at the
Bridge and Protect all of His creatures on this sad world. I know you will see all my gang
up there all of the wonderful cats, dogs, birds and all, I have had the pleasure of
calling friends and loving as my kids. Such a beautiful face, and those eyes
oh, my! And such a serious
expression! I am sure life was, indeed, a very serious matter for Tomato. I will always
remember the way he snuggled against my neck when I visited Best Friends. I love you,
Tomato, wherever you are! I am so very glad that we met last Christmas when I came to Best Friends
as a volunteer to take care of you and your feline friends for a week. The time I spent
with you and your white cat roommates was very therapeutic for me. My first cat, Midnight
(AKA Kitty) has also made the trip across the Rainbow Bridge, and I hope that you can find
her and tell her how much I miss her. I wish you a safe journey. I had a yellow cat that I found at work back in 1981, he was the color of peanut
butter, so that was his name. He followed me everywhere and I still miss him a lot. When
we went to sleep he would be right next to my heart and I could hear him purring. If you
happen to see him tell him I still love him dearly and I miss him a lot and so does Nikki,
Spotte , Penny and Pepi. We know that you and Samantha and her friend Muffin are really good friends now. Muffin
looks a lot like you Tomato, and he was a rescue too. Have fun my friend...chasing
butterflies, getting chin scritches and giving headbonks. Till we all meet again. Please give my love to Spooky, and then try to seek out my other babies, a female
cockapoo - Rusty, a female black cocker - Ebony, a female blond cocker - Jessie, two male
bulldogs -- Mac and Winston, and a male tortoise tabby- Sammy, a female tortoise tabby -
Cleo, and my baby Spooky. All of these animals lived to be old -- past the age of 10 and
just wore out, I guess. I miss every one of them. Take care, dear friend -- God bless you. We never met, but I'll miss you anyway... fair winds and following seas, my friend.... You were so very loved and I'm sure you will pass on all the hellos and love from all
of us still here trying to carry on your good work. Please look up my doggie friends
Mitzy, FiFi, Jackie and Muffin. There are more but I'm sure if you ask around they'll let
you know who they are. "Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if I were
beside you ... I loved you, 'twas heaven here with you." In your special picture, you closely resemble a delightful, dear friend of mine,
Calamity Jane, who left for the Rainbow Bridge herself this Spring. By now, CJ should have
things running there the way she wants them, much the same as she did here. She joined a
sweet, gentle friend Cassie, both of whom are fond of kind, clever writers such as you. You
are all in very fine company and much loved. Well, Tomato, now you can investigate the greatest mystery of all! Tammy was right in
suspecting that you would become a Guardian Angel. Please tell my crazy calico cat,
Sweetie, that I loved her more than anything in the entire world. Perhaps you two will
become friends. My cat Garfield died last year and I miss him a lot. He was a British cream and was 11
years old. Please say hello to him and tell him that we have planted a plant for him in
the garden. I hope you both get on. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work and play with Tomato when I was there. I will
miss his sweet column in the magazine and his special little web page. I know he is up in
kitty heaven writing those great columns for God and making Him smile. With great love, Well Tomato, you've done it again. Your last report was a tear-jerker. You changed my
life, showing me about Best Friends and all the wonderful work the animals and people do
there together. Farewell, dear cat! Please say hello to Isabel for me. She's a very
special little Siamese who crossed Rainbow Bridge from Benton's House not long after you
did. Love to you both, My cat Mugsy is at the Rainbow Bridge, too. He is black and white and quite a big
fellow. When you see him tell him his mom misses him very much. He acts real tough but
he's not. Don't tell him I told you. Mugsy will look out for you at the Bridge. Godspeed
Tomato! Ajax went over the rainbow bridge in June and he too was an orange tabby. He was with
me for 11 wonderful years. I rescued him from an abusive family and brought him home. I'm
sure you will see him and become friends. Maybe you could watch over him and guide him as
I know you will be doing for others. Dear Tomato, Two summers ago I lost my cat too. Her name is Patty and she was 14 years
old. I miss her very much! She's black and white and very cute. I was wondering if
you could do me a favor and tell her hello from her entire family. Thank you!
Please say hello to my Bosley, Pooh, Sable, Puddy, Willard, Morris, Samantha and Felix.
I miss each of them so much. Because of you, I became a [Best Friends] Guardian Angel. You
were the best spokescat cats ever could have had. Please watch over us all from your new
"Office". Love, Your articles were the first I always turned to in Best Friends Magazine and you
reminded us so much of our two orange and white kitties... NO ONE will ever fill your
paws. But we know we'll see you again someday. As I was thinking how sad I about your passing was, I realized that you did have a very
good life, you made the lives of other cats better by being yourself. I had a cat that
died 14 years ago and I still cry when I thnk of him, he was 14 when he died and had a
long life and a very short sickness at the end. I know you will see all of us again. I only discovered Best Friends last fall and even though I didn't know you very long,
Tomato, I cried when I read your farewell. I wanted to come and meet you next year, little
one; now I'll see you at Angel's Rest. Your reports were the best! Please look up a special friend for me. His name is Cassidy, he was my best friend
ever, and he has been gone since 1984. He must know the system there pretty well by now,
and he can show you around. We'll miss your reports, Tomato -- they were the highlight of the BF newsletter :-).
But we'll keep you in our hearts until we see you again. Having had the pleasure of meeting you at Best Friends made it all the harder to read
your Farewell. But if I know you, you are working on a great story "from the Other
Side" Please say hello to Mitzi, and The Mom Cat. You will always be in my heart! I was emotionally touched when I read about you! I know you will be a great guardian
angel!! What a wonderful passing, in the presence of friends who made you feel so wonderful and
welcome from the time you came to live there until your time to go. Please find Tabitha, a
beautiful Siamese cat, and Christy, the cutest Border Collie mix you could find. They
crossed over a long time ago, but I know that they are patiently waiting for us. We were never able to come to Utah to meet you in the fur but we know your spirit
abounds everywhere there are cats and people who love and care for animals. We have so
many friends that have gone over the Rain Bow Bridge, I hope they were of help to you to
make the transition. A special kiss and cuddle from I have been receiving your magazine for a few years now. Tomato was one of my favorite
columns. I will miss his antics. Plant a wish for me [in the Best Friends Wishing Garden]
for Tomato's ongoing happiness over the Rainbow Bridge. Tomato, I know you will be in heaven so please give my love to Billie Jean and
Apheelya. I loved those cats so much. God brought you to Best Friends because you deserved
to have a good life. Now you have found another wonderful place where you will always find
happiness. Please say hello to Coconut Callison, my childhood kitty. We still miss her. Enjoy the
wonderful catnip and rainbows over there. Tomato, you've been an inspiration to all us cats down here who aspire to journalism
careers. I hope some day to have my own column like you. Take good care until some of the
rest of us join you. I am new to Best Friends, just saw it on Animal Rescue today. It really touched me. I
lost my wonderful cat Butter to a car accident.. The best cat my family ever had. Butter
didn't have many kitty friends, just puppies in his neighborhood. Tomato will have to show
him how to play with other kitties. Dear Tomato, now the Angel Kitty, rest in peace. Please watch over my Misse from the
sky. My husband and I made a special side trip to Best Friends early May 98 to see you and
Benton. We came a few days too late. I was so sad. I loved to read your reports especially
when I was stressed out at work. I wish you well in your new life. All i can say is I love you and I will miss you. You will be missed by us all and we love you. Please do me a favor and say hello to all
the little babies that my husband and I have had pass over. Tell them we love them too.
Send us some reports from the hereafter..... Love, I will miss you and your reports. Say hello to Tiger, Treo, and Oreo
when your up there. Tell them I miss them, and if you have time beam down some reports. Please say hello to Polar Bear, who went to the rainbow bridge this May. He was a dear
friend to me, and I'm sure he will be for you. I would like to share a poem with everyone
that comforted me in P.B.'s passing: If you get a chance......please give Leo my best. Tell him his brother will be there
sometime before long. Thanks, I enjoyed my visit last October, and I made a special trip
just to meet you. I met and adopted my wonderful Phil, and I have you to thank for
bringing us together. May you have beautiful butterflies to play with on the other side of
the bridge. Love, I am so sorry that you are no longer with us, but take comfort in knowing that
you were happy and well cared for while living at Best Friends. I will miss your articles
and you very much. It's such a hard part of life when our friends pass away. I know, my dad just died but
I'm sure he's hanging out with his best friend, Bubbie, a stray that needed and found a
dad...Say hello to them for me. G'Day, Mate! In my country, Australia, a mate is someone you trust and someone who
trusts you. I think that would describe you pretty well, mate. I would like you to say
G'day to some of my mates, Konnon, Saxon, Nero, and little Bub. I loved them so very
much, they may be a bit rough but they'll look after you. We must always remember: Your story and last conversation with Tammy really touched me, and I feel
that I know you so well. We were sad at first knowing that you would never be able to write your wonderful
reports ("Tristan und Curly" was the VERY BEST!!!) again, but after awhile we
thought "Hey this is the BEST because Tomato will never have to take that yucky
medicine ever again !!" We will miss you very much until it is our time to cross the
Rainbow Bridge -- keep the lights on so we will know where to find you. So sorry to see you go. We will miss you but know that you are in a
better place. Say hi to all my babies who've passed on too.(Raco, Cinnamon, Mufasa,
Sparky, Rusty, Socks,Silver, Booksie, Cocoa Puff, Squeakers, Little Puff and Snowy) We
miss them but will keep helping and rescuing as many as we can. So sad you have to leave. I support all animal foundations because I love
animals. So it makes me very sad you haft to go and I hope you achieved the
Pulitzer Prize. Thanks for showing the world what a difference a well-loved cat can
make. Your fact-finding reports, your sweet orange face, and your journalistic flair
brought me many a smile. Please keep an eye on all the furry ones left on Earth. Although I had only come to know you in the last few months, you made a big impact on my
life. I sent away for an internship package and I hope to join the PTB at best
friends for some valuable experience. Your investigative journalism was spectacular. When
I heard of your passing my eyes filled with tears, but my spirit filled with joy because I
know you had a meaningful life that meant something to many others. I look forward to
meeting you someday on the other side. Rest in peace, my dear friend. Safe journey, Tomato...thanks for all the lessons... If you run into my dog Smokey, I
am sure he would be pleased to have you curl up and sleep in in his wonderful fluffy tail
as he was with my kittens before he crossed over. You will be missed as are all our
special friends who have gone before you My kitty had to be put down about a year ago & I still miss her very very much!!
Now it's nice to know she'll have a good friend like Tomato to keep her warm at night. We think your purpose in life was to bring joy and laughter to those who got to know
you, and to educate others that animals do, indeed, have souls. Please say hello to Tyler,
Mufti and Lucky, who are already there! Tell them we miss and love them always. And
special kisses to Puffy, Mushka,Patches and Scampi, for whom we still hang Christmas
stockings every year and love unashamedly. And to Terry, my angel. We will miss you. Say hi to my pet Safari for me when you cross the rainbow bridge.
Everybody you helped, loves you. Luv Ya, We are so fortunate to have a good home, love, food and hardly any need for medicine!
We are all black, so sometimes we can't tell each other apart. We've read about you from
the beginning. We've enjoyed your stories and photos. You're so handsome! How we'll miss
you. Just heard about you today, my friend, but I know you are in a happy place with my dogs
waiting for me. You're the funnest journalist. I hope you're having a great time at the Bridge and
staying on top of all the news. We would love to have updates on our little sweeties, so
send us the latest scoops. I hope you thought to bring your computer. If you see little
Cream Puff, say hi for me. Little white guy, red collar, lipstick kiss on the top of his
head, veeerrry sweet and purry. See ya big guy, I just wanted to express my sympathy for the loss of such a good friend. I know how
painful it is to lose someone you love so dearly that has just given unconditional love in
return. I hope wishes such as these help in some small way. Please give Kylee a kiss, and if you can find some of my other kids, kiss them for me
too, please (Felix, Sasha, Aeryn and Patches). I loved reading your reports. You are a
very smart kitty -- nothing gets by you. I just sent off my first donation to Best
Friends. I am going to sponsor a dog and a cat. Would you please pick out a special kidden
for me? Sadly, we read your Farewell, but we know that you are in a better world across the
Rainbow Bridge. We understand that it's a happy place, filled with sunshine, birds, and
catnip. Remember sweetie pie when I first met you in October '97? I made a promise
to you that I would be back to see you. Well, I kept that promise but only you
didn't have time to wait for me. I visited you at Angel's Rest to say my private
goodbye to you. I know you heard me and knew I was there. Rest in peace,
little Tomato, and remember what a wonderful life you lived with everyone who loved you so
much at Best Friends. I am very sorry about Tomato. But you brought him to life for all of us
who aren't there. If you happen to see a young man in a brown robe, feel free to climb right into his
lap. St. Francis always had a special place in his heart for the small ones of this
world. Please look up a lovely tabby named Windy and a very special guy who goes by
Romeo. They'll both be more than glad to show you around and point out the sunniest
places for long afternoon naps. Tell them we still love them and miss them. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all and Tomato. We will miss you very much. I always enjoyed logging on and reading
about your many antics and seeing you big fella. You weren't here long enough my friend.
Thank you Best Friends for giving him a great time while here. Ever since I discovered this sanctuary I have been so impressed with its work and have
wanted to get out to visit all. The news that you have crossed over was upsetting, but it
seems as if you have done your good work here on earth. May the Force be with you. Tomato, I wish you well and hope that you are frolicking on the other side, with no
more sneezles. Please greet all of my beloved companions who have passed on. Way to go
Tomato! |
