Tammy lives at the TLC Cat Club because she's a bit nervous around other dogs, but she gets on great with the cats.

Tammy was a racing greyhound at the Tijuana, Mexico, race track. She's not a very big girl, and when her owners decided she couldn't have an illustrious racing career, they decided to "donate" her to a laboratory for medical research. (That would enable them to write Tammy off their taxes.)

Before this came to pass, however, Tammy was rescued by a California greyhound rescue group. They tried to find a nice new family for her, but she was pretty weird  (all nervous and skittish) around people, so Plan A didn't work out.

Instead, the PTB agreed to bring her to Best Friends.

Current state of mental health. Tammy is still quite nervous around people, especially men. She has a tendency to bolt, but that's no problem here at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary: She can just race off into the trees for a few minutes, without having to worry about city traffic.

Criminal record. Don't tell her I said this, but Tammy has been diagnosed as a kleptomaniac.  She has been convicted of stealing car keys, purses, cups of coffee, books, wallets and other personal effects. These are stored in well-known "secret" stashes a few hundred yards down the hill from my office.

Sponsors. Despite her criminal record, Tammy is very popular among members of Best Friends. She has lots of sponsors, and is a favorite pin-up girl on people's refrigerators at home.
