Take a walk on the oinky side! Welcome to a special haven for homeless pigs that we like to call Piggy Paradise. Potbellied pigs, once touted as "yuppie puppies" because of their popularity in the 1980s, are very intelligent, sensitive, clean (yes, clean) and active critters. But lots of them end up homeless because they grow up to be much larger than people anticipate and, like other popular pets, they've been bred for profit so much that now there are too many pigs and not enough homes.
Best Friends' pig population began with just one very ornery homeless pig named Molly. But the need has grown and so has the facility. Now, Best Friends has more than a dozen pigs, along with pig houses and condos, play areas and shrub gardens ("forests" if you're short and squat), and a pig specialist running it all named Yvonne McIntosh (pictured with Sprocket).
So, welcome to Piggy Paradise! Take the online tour, and if you fall in love with these adorable oinkers, then come on down to the sanctuary sometime and take the Piggy Tour in person.
