Getting Creative with Kids
Best Friends' humane education team, led by Cathie Myers, set up shop at an adoption event in Ogden, Utah, as part of Utah's Week for the Animals. During the visit, they thought up creative ways to help kids celebrate how wonderful it is to have animals in our lives.
"Little Dog Lost" was a big floor game where kids pretended they were a lost dog, trying to get home. If they landed on "Lost your tags," they had to go back a space. If they landed on "Some children put up signs about you," they got to move forward. All the way home!
"Help a Shelter Pet" let kids make their own gifts for animals in shelters. Some of the kids made little adornments, like bow ties, which they promptly put on the animals right there at the adoption event.
Fourteen boys from the nearby Oakley School served as volunteers. Some put on dog and cat costumes, and even did cartwheels to attract visitors. And, members of the Edison School Choir lent their beautiful voices to the event.
