Calendar Dogs

Emily Ritt, a Best Friends intern, made it her special project to create a furry-faced calendar using photos she had taken of Best Friends dogs.

"I wanted to use the ones who are a little quirky, who don't get as much attention from visitors," said Emily. "I thought I'd give them a little exposure, then maybe they could get adopted."

Emily's calendar features a dog or a pair for each month. Dare to resist looking up your birthday month! And along the side of each page, she tells the dog's story.

When she gets home to Portland, Maine, Emily plans to give copies to her friends and family. And after that? "Best Friends can keep it and do with it whatever it likes," she says.

Does she realize that Best Friends employees will now be bugging her for bunny, horse, bird and cat calendars? "Absolutely," she says, backing away. "Sure."
