Taffy's Tutor

Molly Wald's internship at Best Friends focused on what she could do to make a difference for one animal.

Molly met Taffy when they both went on a Best Friends adoption day. Taffy got spooked and started snapping at people. Molly assigned herself to "Taffy patrol, which basically entailed keeping small children's fingers away from Taffy's pen." The dog ended up in Molly's lap for much of the time and was not adopted.

Back at Best Friends, Molly started working with Taffy, slowly introducing her to new people, children, dogs, other animals, and new surroundings.

"By the end of the training, there was a marked difference in Taffy's appearance and behavior," says Molly. "I took her for a walk through town, and her tail was no longer between her legs. She is confident and interested in her surroundings. It was therapeutic for me to help this dog overcome her issues."

Molly is now working full-time for Best Friends in website development, and Taffy (who is an awesome dog, by the way) is still up for adoption!
