Bred to be a hunting dog, it was time for Remington to learn how just to be a dog!

Remington lived in a small, very isolated Arizona community where dogs are generally kept outdoors and thought of as ‘useful’. And Remington had a purpose. He knew how to help people go hunting.

But what happens when a ‘useful’ dog is no longer needed? What if – as in this case – his person needs to move and he can’t take a hunting dog? Well, altogether too often, unwanted dogs in this particular community would be shot. But even though he knew that’s what his neighbors would expect, this particular man didn’t want to shoot good old Remington. Instead, he put up flyers, he sought out new homes, and he advertised on the Internet. But nobody seemed to want Remington.

So Remington came to Best Friends. He’s never really been a “pet”, though. He doesn’t know how to behave when he’s indoors, and he’s not used to meeting a lot of new people or walking around a town on leash. So before he starts his new life as somebody’s best friend or beloved family pet …Best Friends is teaching him what it’s like to have a social life. And what it’s like to be a dog whose only “purpose” is to love!
