Buzz Buzz

"Oh boy! Did you come to the website just to see me?"

Buzz likes to think that everyone comes around just to see him. He loves people so much, and getting attention is like going to heaven! He's a very friendly seven year-old, always happy, and he's an expert at burying his toys. Or .OK .if that doesn't impress you, let's try this one. He also "sits" on command! He's a very smart fellow.

Buzz can get along well with other dogs if you find just the right match for him. He is a big, strong boy, though, and a dog-savvy person might have an easier time with him. He's a grown-up's dog, and should be handled carefully. (He can get very annoyed during medical exams, for example.)

But he's got a wonderful, happy spirit. The instant he sees you, he's excited. "Do you want to meet me? What did you bring me?" If you ask him, if you're looking for a `real dog' - then look no further! And if you can't take this happy guy home, make his day by sponsoring him instead.

Cabby

Cabby

"Sometimes, I get lonely."

Cabby gets pretty happy when she sees people coming. She likes to make sure they're going to come see her and play with her and pet her. Cabby loves to play fetch and Run Because It's Fun. Anyone who spends time with her, pets her and accepts her happy dog kisses is her new best friend. She can't get enough attention or enough loving --- or playtime.

She's great with kids, but can be a little picky about her canine friends. She's always on the lookout for someone to take her home and love her for the sweet, enthusiastic girl she is.

Watch for Cabby in Season 4 in 2010!

Cherry

Cherry

One of the dogs rescued from the property of former NFL quarterback, Michael Vick, Cherry is shut down and shy. When he first arrived at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, he didn't even know how to walk on a leash. In fact, he was afraid to. He would get on his belly to let you know you'd have to drag him if you wanted to walk him.

There was a horrible, huge scar on his back. And any time a stranger approached, he would run away and cower. What on earth had been done to this poor dog?

But tune into the show to see how Best Friends' Michelle Besmehn takes on Cherry's shyness, and challenges him to meet a broader world - a world full of adventure, opportunities for fun and happiness, and even love.

Won't you consider loving Cherry by becoming his sponsor friend?
Denzel Denzel

How did this boy get so happy?

When 22 dogs arrived at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary after they were rescued from the property of former NFL quarterback, Michael Vick, most of them were pretty scared and traumatized.

But one of them - Denzel - seemed like he had somehow come out of the dog fighting ring fairly unscathed. He was so sociable and friendly! But he hadn't come out unscathed at all. Denzel turned out to be deathly ill.

The Best Friends vets come to the rescue as this pup handles blood transfusions, and extensive testing. For the first time, he has a life worth living. Balls, toys, friends, and a leash that he likes to take himself on a walk with! It wouldn't be fair to lose his health now, just when his days have turned friendly. Can the vets make sure this boy gets to enjoy his new life at the sanctuary? Absolutely, they can and Denzel is doing great. Won't you help him on his journey by being his sponsor?
Georgia Georgia

You may have seen her on the cover of the New York Times!

But Georgia doesn't exactly think of herself as a celebrity. She thinks of herself more as a very lucky dog who narrowly escaped living her whole life in pain.

She was one of the dogs rescued from the property of former NFL quarterback, Michael Vick. Her ears were cropped, her tail had been broken several times, she had scars all over her face, she'd clearly given birth to many litters, and she had no teeth. That was her life!

When Georgia arrived at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, she didn't trust anybody. Until she made a special friend in John Garcia. Watch as their friendship transforms this abused dog from a fearful victim into a cutie-pie who snores, plays, always carries a bone in her mouth, and is even fighting to pass the Canine Good Citizen test.

Please consider sponsoring Georgia through her journey here at Best Friends.

Hugo Hugo

A purebred bloodhound! How cute is that face?

Hugo was abandoned on a highway - what a way to say ` goodbye' to your dog. But animal control picked him up before he could get run over.

Hugo is a nice leash-walker, and very affectionate. Typical of his breed, he's huge (100 pounds!) and he can be stubborn. He'd rather be "asked" than given orders. And his veterinarian muzzles him before poking and prodding - a safety precaution that's a good idea with someone as strong-willed as Hugo.

Hugo really loves the people in his life - and they love him, too. He likes other dogs if you find just the right one. But this five year-old isn't great with cats. If you've always wanted a hound dog .here's one who really needs you. Please contact us to learn more!

If you don't have room for this hunky hound, please consider sponsoring Hugo instead.

Meryl Meryl

Why does she always have such a worried look on her face? Partly, it's just a cute face! Meryl can't help having that expression. But she's also a dog who's known some real heartache.

Meryl is one of the fighting dogs rescued from the property of former NFL quarterback, Michael Vick. Her life had been loveless; she had only been used for what her teeth could do. And when she was rescued, she wasn't deemed safe for a home. She was court ordered to live at Best Friends, instead. And now the goal is to give this precious dog the fullest life imaginable for her...

Best Friends dog trainer Ann Allums is working one-on-one with Meryl to teach her not to lash out in fear. Confidence is the key. Meryl needs to learn that people might be approaching her for a brand new reason - not because they want her to fight, but because they want to be her friend. Meryl is a playful dog who enjoys people once she gets to know them.

Meryl would as much love and support as possible to help her progress in her life at the sanctuary. Won't you be apart of her success by sponsoring her?

Nochi

Nochi

He's little and cute, but he doesn't take any nonsense!

Nochi is a terrier mix who reminds his caregivers of Steve Martin's "a wild and craaaazy guy". He's really adorable, walking around in his purple harness, and he's smart, too. He breezed through obedience school like it was nothing. But boy, does he get `amped'. Sometimes it seems like everything is so exciting, he just can't control himself. Keeping his environment nice and calm is key to keeping him relaxed, and making sure other dogs don't get nipped.

Nochi is just 36 pounds and three years old, but he thinks he's a really big dog! His bravado, energy, and high intelligence make him a dog with special needs who's looking for a dog-savvy home without cats or small children. But there's something about him. Some caregivers declare him their "favorite". He's cute and smart and would love to wiggle his way into your heart.

Scruffy

Scruffy

Not all criminals are created equal. Some can outmaneuver even the smartest detectives, others lead the authorities right to their doorstep.

Scruffy's crime? Breaking out! (And then back in!) Scruffy was rescued from Hurricane Katrina, when his shelter closed, he came to Best Friends. Because he was such a shy fellow, he stayed at Admissions. with his own private play area. Then came the time to move him into another dog area.

But Scruffy had other plans. He also had something of a one-time-only opportunity. He was in a temporary side yard, a place where dogs can adjust to their new surroundings before moving in with other dogs. Scruffy pushed, pried and dug his way beneath a fence of his temporary home. He was free!

But where did he go? Um ... right back to his old play area, he "broke in" to Admissions during the night. You can't blame Scruffy, really. He knows a good thing when he has it!

If you'd like to help this fuzzy fugitive on his journey, sponsor him today and let him know his world is forever safe and secure

Theresa

Theresa

Theresa's got it goin' on! With a devoted entourage making sure her wardrobe always matches, and providing the requisite bling to keep her satisfied, you'd think Theresa was the Diva of all divas. Wrong! Theresa's an over-sized lap dog who lives for love, and bestows ample kisses on all of her admirers.

It's her sweet soul that ensures such a loyal following. Well, maybe those Minnie Mouse ears, too... Hard to believe Theresa was abandoned here at Best Friends. She had horrible skin problems, and needed special care for the first month. Now, her skin's much better, and she gets a special diet. She also had a lump removed recently, so hopes are high that her health is on the mend. She absolutely adores rubber balls, and has to have one to carry at all times. She prefers her scarf and accessoriesto match the ball of the day.She also enjoys going on sleepovers, but it's been discovered she has one very un-diva-like habit -- she snores like a freight train! Just makes her all the more lovable.

Vivian

Vivian

Vivian has endured traumatic experiences in her young life. Surviving the streets of New Orleans she came to Best Friends frightened and distrustful of everyone. She used to raise her hackles and bark trying to keep strangers away. Those are things that probably kept her alive for so long during that scary time. Now those barks have suddenly turned to lots of love and kisses, she just craves the attention. She just needed to know she was safe. Vivian has come a long way in her interaction with people. The biggest change seemed to happen when she had to spend time in the clinic. There were so many things going on that she became better at interacting with people and handling instruction. She loves attention, but is probably not quite ready for a home with children. With other dogs, she's pretty good, but very assertive, and gets along best with males.

Vivian has had a challenging journey and just wants a place to call her own. Could you be that person? If not, won't you consider being her special sponsor friend?
Waylon
Waylon

Waylon is so excited to meet you!

He really loves people - Waylon is a terrific greeter! But it seems like maybe someone wasn't so nice to him once, cause sometimes he'll get a little uncertain. He looks inquisitively at you, like he's just making sure you're as nice as he thought you were. There's a lot going on in that mind of his!

Waylon came from a shelter that had fallen into neglect. No one's sure where he came from before that. He can be a little "tough" with other dogs sometimes, and it's good to treat him with respect when you don't know him well, cause there is that little cautious streak in him.

But Waylon comes when he's called, and he definitely knows his name. He can do "sit", "down" and he can catch treats in the air. And most importantly, he's an enthusiastic and loveable dog who really wants a chance at life in a home. Waylon is just six years old and healthy.

Waylon would love a sponsor friend, could that be you?
