Fall is upon us here in southern UT (although today it feels a lot more like winter!). The falling cottonwood leaves are a brilliant yellow all over our Horse Haven parking area, the mule deer are wandering down from the hills in the evening and one of our annual volunteers has joined us for the week. Patsy comes to spend a week with us every October from Cody, WY where she cares for a gorgeous herd of Shires. Of course when I first met Clyde I immediately thought of Patsy and couldn’t wait for her to meet him.
When I arrived one morning last week, Patsy was already here and somehow I wasn’t surprised when first thing she asked for an introduction to Bonnie and Clyde. I of course was happy to oblige and before I knew it Patsy had her muck fork and was happily mucking out their stall and turnout area.
In addition to being an enthusiastic poop scooper and stall cleaner, Pasty is also a grooming fanatic. We can always tell when Patsy’s been to visit as the horses are fluffed and buffed and look ready for a night on the town. I knew it would only be a matter of time before Bon and Clyde’s spa treatment would begin. Clyde’s tail is now flowing and lovely, his mane is all brushed out and he’s a lot less dusty. And just in time, too. Friday was the day before Halloween and all of the animal care areas here at the sanctuary had an open house Halloween party. In addition to the fabulous grooming, Clyde was also decked out in his best orange duct tape booties. They were very festive indeed!
