October 23 to 26 was the adoption run to the St. Francis Festival in Scottsdale hosted by PAC911, a coalition of groups in Arizona that Best Friends is part of. The event was a success, adopting more animals than during the previous years. I believe the number was 272. We adopted out two of our dogs, Widget and Harley.
Raed used to go on many of the mobiles, and before he got his suite in the kitten area, he went on all of them. Partially to separate him from the other cats, but also to work with him. He's always been a good traveler so I knew he would enjoy the outing. Mobile adoption are necessary for the adoption department, partially because we are in a more remote part of the country and not everyone wants to adopt via our online work. The other part is that we're one of the public faces of Best Friends.
While Raed didn't get adopted during the weekend, he did have many admirers, though he did smack the two dogs that got a bit too close. At night, I gave him out of the carrier privileges and he was content to curl up on the bed at night. On Sunday, we got him his blessed tag, and while he did get admired by one of the monks, still no applicants. Monday and Tuesday, Jean and Terri remarked on him being calmer in his run.
So hopefully he can go out on more mobile adoptions since it seems to be good for him. He's a fairly curious cat and needs the mental engagement. I think in a home with a person, he'd get that. In his room, he gets some, but he really needs his own person.
