Just as Masi has at last gained the confidence she needs to test out other cat beds and vantage spots in the Kitty Motel Lobby, even without the encouragement of her caregivers, comes this wonderful news: She has been adopted!
We will surely miss witnessing her patience and determination — her spirited life has been inspiring to us. She may always tremor and wobble, especially when excited or anxious, and have to move through those slow-motion, gangly attempts before attaining some coordination, but her balance seems to be improving with practice, along with her body strength. Without hesitation now, she will grip herself to an upright position on all fours and get her wobbling arms and legs going, stretching and stepping forward to a place intentionally chosen. You can see that, clearly, here is a girl with ideas for the future!
Once she arrives at her destination, she will lower herself down to rest on her side. This is not a tumble, but something she definitely means to do! And now, her kittenish nature will emerge, and she might grip and kick at the toes of your sneakers or lift her head, spy her own tail and start batting at it (unless something is laying on the floor, like a crumpled pastry bag from Linda Leah’s bakery in Kanab, UT, which has just the right stiffness and chewability to crinkle awhile before tearing!) She is so alert and intelligent and, perhaps even more than some other cats, very sensitive to sound and motion.
Thinking back on Masi’s last week here at Best Friends, two sweet moments come to mind: Tuesday at lunch, she came out, turned the corner and cozied herself into the cat bed next to where Mouse was laying. The two wobbly cats then performed a long version of the ritualistic nose-touching that cats sometimes do as a greeting. Facing each other for what seemed like minutes, they each knew what the other was aiming for, and without any hissing or annoyance, took their many tries and eventually made perfect contact, with a startling little bump! A few days afterward, we saw Masi in another, different cat bed, stretching her neck and peering intently into the room at us, while we were having our morning meeting. She most definitely had something to add!
Dear little Masi, we are so grateful to have been able to care for you. What happiness this is, knowing you have gone to an A+ home!
More from her new family next week!
