Cinnabun enjoys going for walks with volunteers. We instruct the volunteers not to pick her up and explain what her body language will be if she is uncomfortable. She is one of our best walkers and enjoys her time on the trail and she enjoys meeting new people.
When I have extra time, I stop by the Clinic with Cinnabun at the end of the day. The clinic is always busy with volunteers, staff and dogs coming and going. It is not a comfortable environment for Cinnabun, but one she needs to be exposed to in order to get over some of her issues. She is very clear about her comfort level and once in a while we need to leave by the back door because she has had enough. She likes the routine though.
She is attempting to bite more, but her "recovery time" is faster. She used to hold a grudge and any attempt for hours afterward to pick her up invited bared teeth. She now can recover in minutes and go on with her day. She may be more reactive because she is doing so many more things and her world has gotten bigger. She went on another hike this week. We had eighteen dogs including Cinnabun and all were off leash except Cinnabun and hounds Rhianna and Rhapsody.
She was run over a few times by excited dogs who didn't see her leash, I tripped over her and she had obstacles that were much bigger for her than the other dogs. She got cranky a few times and I thought for sure she would be exhausted and stressed out at the end of the walk. She surprised me, she was ready to go again and was not even tired when we got back. She is a tough little dog!
