Best Friends gets ready to set a world record!

Why not get Best Friends in the Guinness Book of World Records for walking dogs? Sure it’s a publicity stunt, but if a guy in New Zealand can get all over the news by walking 11 dogs, we figured the Best Friends dogs could do much better and most of them are looking for good homes besides. After all, we’ve got nearly 600 of them to choose from!

After talking to the folks at Guinness we found that there was no current record in place for the most dogs walked. They gave us the go ahead, but we had to follow very specific guidelines.

The walk had to be at least 1km and all of the dogs had to be walked by one person. Well, we thought, if 11 is good, 26 is better by far!

The next step was finding the very best dog walker on staff. John Garcia has a history of doing amazing things with the dogs. As far as the dogs are concerned, John is simply the best dog walker in the world. We are hoping that Guinness thinks so too!

So John chose some of his favorite walking partners, like Sunday who had never walked on a leash in her life before arriving at Best Friends. Today she’s walking on leash with 25 of her friends by her side!

On August 11, 2005, John and his doggie team set a world record. And the adoptable dogs are all ready for good homes. Who wouldn’t want a world record holder in the family? Click here to see which of these stars are adoptable!
