A citizen's group in North Carolina launched an ambitious plan to end the killing of homeless pets in their community. The mission of No More Homeless Pets of the Triad is to end pet overpopulation and animal cruelty by assisting other humane groups, animal shelters and veterinarians in achieving their respective missions, and by forming programs that are not already in place that complement existing initiatives. "Our goal is for every healthy dog and cat to have a loving home." How it all started: After the Columbine massacre, community leaders and volunteers in Greensboro, NC, got together to discuss why this tragedy occured, and what could be done to prevent something similar from happening in the community. One common element identified by investigators in the Columbine shootings was that early animal abuse and crueltly was largely ignored and left unchecked...
