Because Dogs Can't Drive

If it weren't for Sandy Ely, Alicia the dog might not be snuggling up with her new family right now!

Carole Sanger first met Alicia back in April at Best Friends. Four months later, she still couldn't get Alicia out of her mind. "If you can get her to Cincinnati," she told us, "or part way here, she will find a home with us."

The first leg of the journey, from Best Friends to St. Louis was no problem. She got a ride with a staff person who was heading that way.

But what about from St. Louis? A member of the Best Friends Network there had signed up saying that "Transportation" was something she could do in her area. Alicia was soon on her way!

"Sandy was as accommodating as could be," said Carole after the two met. "It's a terrific network, and impressive as always. Ms. Alicia currently is sleeping quite contentedly next to our Golden on the kitchen floor. It took her no time at all to explore the house, meet the other dogs and settle in, and she's just as beautiful, sweet and loopy as I remembered!"

Give Someone a Ride Home!

Giving a ride to needy dogs who pass through your area can be an invaluable way to help and be part of the Best Friends Network of caring.

"We still have a lot of blank spaces across the country," says Network staffer Lori Corrigan. "Places we'd like to have Network members. These animals are already going to a home - you're just helping them get there." Help us fill in those blanks!
