Denise Kelly
Denise Kelly has been associated with Best Friends Animal Society for three years. She manages the New York advertising sales office for Best Friends magazine and also handles distribution of the magazine to news stands throughout the U.S.
Denise writes and co-authors articles on avian welfare issues for various publications and websites, and has contributed to Best Friends magazine and the website.
Denise is a cofounder and board member of the Avian Welfare Coalition. She has been active in animal welfare and protection issues, and has volunteered for a number of nonprofit organizations for more than two decades. Her love of animals and birds began early in childhood when her family took in a canary that a neighbor could no longer keep. She has lived with birds, and dogs, ever since. Denise's family includes her life partner, Irwin, a four-year-old rescued parakeet and a 33-year-old Amazon parrot.
Prior to joining Best Friends, Denise spent more than 22 years in the publishing world. She held management positions in marketing, new business development, and advertising sales for a variety of consumer and trade publications and communication companies. She was an instructor at the Center for Corporate Communications, where she trained executives in public speaking and presentation skills, and was also a licensed real estate agent in New York City.
Denise attended New York University and the New School for Social Research, majoring in business administration and publishing management. She also studied voice, piano and music history.
