Getting Together for Animal Welfare Connecting with fellow animal
advocates is a great way to share
ideas and meet like-minded allies.
How can you start a local network
or coalition?
Michelle Buckalew
Michelle Buckalew is president of AnimalWorldUSA, an organization located in Memphis, Tennessee. Michelle is founding editor of The Animal World, its supporting monthly publication which is distributed in the Mid-South. Animal World USA mission is to educate people to understand, love, nurture and protect the animals of our world. Both the organization and the publication are consistently working to raise awareness, host events and build relationships on behalf of the animals.
Michelle comes from a career in radio that includes working as a producer, in promotions/marketing, and including on-air responsibilities. In 2001, Michael Mountain was a guest on The Book Gallery, a syndicated radio program, speaking about the book Best Friends: The True Story of the World's Most Beloved Animal Sanctuary. That radio interview changed the lives of many listeners that day - including the host. Best Friends Animal Society is the continued inspiration for Animal World USA. The Animal World hosted the first annual Tennessee Week for the Animals during the week of October 1-8, 2005 with Best Friends as the presenting sponsor. Statewide events during this important week changed a generation of citizens and advocates-thus creating a kinder and more humane world for the animals.
