Sharon Gwaltney-Brant received her DVM from North Carolina State University in 1985. After working in small-animal practice, she entered a veterinary pathology residency/graduate program at Kansas State University, where she completed her residency in 1991 and obtained her Ph.D. in 1993. She completed a post-doctoral position at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa, in 1996.


In 1997, Sharon joined the National Animal Poison Control Center, where she is currently director of veterinary toxicology training. She has authored or co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on toxicology and pathology. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology and the American Board of Toxicology.
