Susan is the founder and president of Feral Friends Animal Rescue and Assistance, in Dallas, Texas. She has been in rescue since 1987 when she founded Coppell Humane Society. She founded Feral Friends in 1998 in order to assist the untouchable 'alley' cats.

Susan has also run a corporate event planning company since 1993.
