Sally Mackler
Sally Mackler has been an advocate for animals for over 20 years. She began her journey into animal issues when she moved to San Diego to pursue a graduate degree in zoology. During the ensuing 20 years in San Diego, she was a caretaker at North County Wildlife Refuge, founded San Diego Animal Advocates in the early 1980s, and cofounded the San Diego Feral Cat Coalition in 1992.
Since moving to Oregon in 1993, Sally has been active in political advocacy for wildlife and domestic animals through various state and federal organizations, and has helped create low-cost spay/neuter programs in the Rogue Valley. She was instrumental in the passage of a state citizens' initiative banning the baiting and hounding of bears and cougars. She is currently wildlife chair for the Oregon chapter of the Sierra Club, director of SNYP (Spay Neuter Your Pet) in Medford, Oregon, and active with the Humane USA PAC, Oregon chapter.
