Susan Wagner
Susan Wagner is the president and founder of Equine Advocates, a national nonprofit equine protection organization based in New York. Susan began her career with horses in 1973, but started focusing on humane issues in 1992 when she rescued her first horse from slaughter. Gandalf was her inspiration and the horse slaughter issue became the reason that she founded Equine Advocates in 1996.
In addition to rescuing hundreds of horses through Equine Advocates, Susan has originated and participated in numerous undercover investigations in the U.S. and Canada. These investigations, many of which have been covered on TV, expose horse slaughter, the Premarin industry, the horrors of equine slaughter auctions, and the tragic fate of most camp horses.
In 2004, Susan reached a longtime goal with the opening of Equine Advocates' Safe Home Equine Rescue & Sanctuary, a new 128-acre equine rescue facility in upstate New York.
