Bettie and Barney
We adopted Bettie from a rescue group here in Las Vegas just over a year ago. We fell in love with her instantly. After a couple weeks we decided she needed a companion. So one day while on the internet (I think it was Craig's List), I found a posting for a doggie that looked almost just like Bettie so I had to send an email to find out more.
The lady that had him had found him running in traffic and took him home with her. He had a collar with tags from Orange County, California, but when she called, they had no record of him. She kept him for about a month, but decided she could no longer keep him because her son was allergic to his fur and she felt bad leaving him outside all the time.
So, long story short - we brought Bettie over to meet him and they did ok together. She growled a little, but he just let it slide. It was obvious who would be in charge (Bettie). We went home and discussed it and decided we wanted him so I went back the next day to pick him up.
That day the lady mentioned that she had some reservations about us taking him because she thought Bettie might be a problem. I seriously considered not taking him at that point, but then I just made up my mind and we got in the car and rode home. The whole way accross town he wanted to jump into my lap and lick me. He was so happy! (Or maybe he was just excited to ride in the car!).
Well, that was just about a year ago and Barney has been a wonderful dog. I can't believe someone let him go. And it breaks my heart to think of him running around (in traffic!!) with nowhere to go!
I can't imagine not having him here with us, he is one of our family. He is house-trained and so loving and sweet. Now if he could just teach Bettie how to poop outside, everything would be perfect!
