Tiger

January 2007 I was walking out of Aaron brothers and two ear tips were sticking out of a slot of assorted art prints. I pulled the ears up and saw the face and body of Tiger. The Tiger print was orange multi-colored with green eyes.

I am very conservative and do not use bright colors in my decor. The essence of this print was my personal cat Tiger who I rescued from a boat one year prior. It was my Tiger and I bought it, framed it and hung it in my small sitting room.

Three days later my cat Tiger was diagnosed with renal failure. I looked at the print thinking this will be a tribute to Tiger. I was somewhat prepared to make him comfortable until the end. My former husband and cat lover went online and read about a kidney transplant program at DC Davis in California.

Correspondence can only be done through vets so we talked to Dr. Karin Lemmon. The cat had to be sick enough to qualify and healthy enough to survive. After many tests Tiger was accepted and the surgery scheduled. It was a financial and emotional commitment we made.

ABC news did a story on the Tiger and the kidney transplant which aired on March 28, 2008. We had his 1 year birthday/anniversary celebration on April 2nd 2008 the day of the transplant in 2007. We rented a van, drove to DC Davis with Tiger and his friend Christopher (the donor cat) and what a journey it was.

Christopher failed the last test before transplant and the team of doctors put everything on hold. Next a new donor was found named LiTunga. LiTunga gave Tiger his kidney and everything went perfect, no complications. A few days later I was in a hotel room (for 1 month) with 2 cats and Tiger recovering at DC Davis.
