JD the wonder dog
Back in January 2003 I adopted a dog from Family Dog NW here in Portland, Oregon. His name then was Jay and he had come to Portland after having spent a few months at the Best Friends sanctuary.
I don't know much about his time there in Utah. I know that in February 2002 a farmer surrendered him and two other dogs to the animal control officer in Panguitch, Utah. That officer drove these three dogs to Best Friends and Jay stayed there until November when he was brought here to Portland.
He wasn't the dog I went to see about adopting that morning back in 2003. Frankly, he was kind of a mess. Very skittish and nervous; he wouldn't come anywhere near a human being but the was something about him, and I couldn't leave him there so, I took him home and renamed him JD.
It took about a year for JD to start coming out of his shell but he did start to trust us and relax and now, three plus years later he's the best dog a person could ask for.
He loves walks, squirrels and playing fetch. He's pretty spoiled but my husband and I figured that's probably what such a regal animal deserves. Once in a while when I looks at him I'm just overwhelmed with gratitude at having been given the opportunity to adopt him.
He has made our lives so much richer and I'll always have fond thoughts for Best Friends and all the thousands of JD's you guys help.
