The Beautiful Butterfly
I stood quietly in the field
And watched a beautiful butterfly
As it fluttered frantically about
Searching?Seeking?Wanting
Only yesterday the butterfly
Had found the flower
A very special flower
To be sought?
To be near?
To be gently caressed
As only a beautiful butterfly
Can caress a lovely flower
But the flower had not
Been special to the mower
It lay cut and wilting
In the noonday sun
Half-hidden
In the cut grass?
No longer lovely
The goals which we cherished yesterday
Mean nothing to Life's flower today
And we find them cut down and wilting
In the world of butterflies
There is an abundance of flowers
In our lives there is an abundance of goals
Each with a greater reward than the one before
Life, with a wisdom we are not meant to understand
Cuts each one down
This is Life's way of keeping us
Ever searching?
Ever seeking?
Ever wanting? And then?
We learn the purpose of the Mower
Who cuts down our yesterdays
So that we may seek and find
An even brighter tomorrow?
