Dog Days

Why ME?
I always ask.

What is this dark place?
Why am I here?

Behind this cold metal
What crime have I committed?

I tried to be good
So why am I here?

This place is torture
With nothing to do all day

But wag my tail
When I see a family

But they just walk by
Looking at the puppies

I'm not a pup
But I'm not old

They talk back by
And look at me

But they just turn
Their head away

I say to them as they walk away
"Pick ME! Pick me."

As I fall asleep
I whimper with sorrow

As I wake up
A sign says "6 Days."

What does it mean?
What has happened?

Why ME?
Was I bad?

I'm just a lonely dog.
Looking for a friend.

Why Me? Why ME?
I just want to be
Your best friend.
