Imagine sitting quietly on your deck in the country when suddenly something black and shiny jumps on your lap. At first I thought it was some kind of wild animal, but instead it was a gorgeous black cat with emerald green eyes.
My husband and I fed her and loved her. We both work full time, but every spare minute we spent with her. She had a basket and all the food she could eat. She ate continually, but never gained weight. I noticed she had several nipples and became concerned that she might be pregnant. My vet felt she might have one small kitten, or possible one that had died. He asked me to call back in two weeks, or if she went into labor.
Every day Cami, "camelot" would spend several hours with us, but suddenly and unexpectedly she would wander back into the field. She couldn't imagine what was so important that she left so abruptly. She always came back.
One morning, while I was at work, my husband called, very excited. He always fed Cami before leaving himself. As he glanced out the window Cami was coming across our lawn followed by three kittens. He was so happy and to this day we talk of it often.
Four weeks later my mom and I flew to California to deliver Phoebe to my sister. My mom took Chinny Winnie. We have Spitty, the only boy, and - of course - Cami.
