Haley and Sprout
A Little Girl and her Puppy
It is so important to teach children how special animals are and to always be kind to them. This is my little Granddaughter, Haley, with my little dog Sprout when he was four weeks old.
I was taking care of the Momma Dog while her owner was out of town and she decided to have the pups while here with me. It was a good thing too as I am a vet assistant and she was having a hard time, but all went well and she had six little boys within an hour.
Haley was here with me to witness this miracle and she was so excited. She wanted to help clean them off and get them moving as they were coming so quickly and she was such a big help.
I had four little dogs at the time that she loved so much and always played so gently with them. She lives next door to me with her Mom and Dad and two big sisters, but she is with me all the time.
The Momma and puppies went home the next day and she was so disappointed and wanted to go see them every day. By the end of that first week her owner went out of town for a few weeks so I got to keep her and the pups again.
Haley was tickled pink. When they were all sleeping in their crate she would sing lullabies to them and it warmed my heart to see a three year old little girl so adoring of animals.
The picture is her singing a lullaby to little Sprout, he and one of his brothers who we named Buddy were given to me as thanks for caring for them and helping them into the world. They are Brussells Griffons and look like little monkeys now.
Haley loves all of my dogs and treats them like little people. She tells them stories, sings to them, naps with them all cuddled around her, and can't wait for each new day to come so she can come to Granny's to see "her" doggies.
Our children need to know how important it is to be kind to animals and we, as adults need to set a good example. Please parents teach your children to love animals and they will grow up to be much better people.
